Canmake: Lash Frame Mascara Review

After having reviewed and sadly having thrown out my old mascara (Visee's Lash Volume Mania), I had to find a replacement somewhere, and so this comes in the form of my yearly (or half yearly) mascara!

This is the Lash Frame Mascara by Canmake.

The packaging, and the tube.

This time, I was looking for another mascara that could improve on the Visee. Things I weren't so fond of with Visee, was the size of the tube, just slightly too big for me and I could never use up all the product before it dried out. I also sometimes found that the wand would clump up a little bit too much towards the end of the mascara life.

Comes in one color, 01 which is a natural black. Pictures of a before and after of the mascara application and some other descriptions I will admit to not being able to read. I bought this at Matsumoto Kiyoshi; hence the sticker.

Water based mascaras, unfortunately, tend to not hold up too well in terms of keeping the curl straight after application, but I'm happy to spend a bit more time curling my lashes to amend that problem if it means removing the mascara won't rip out my own lashes or take 30 minutes with makeup oil on my eyes (I don't like makeup oil as a remover, and much prefer micellar water or cold cream types.) The older you get, the more you realize, it's alright to have droopier lashes if you get to keep all of them, with nicer and cleaner skin to boot.

This mascara, thankfully, reminds me a lot of the Visee formula, except with a few added improvements (in my opinion!).

Canmake's Lash Frame mascara retails for a very affordable 650 JPY, although it is much smaller than typical mascaras you might buy. You can get this from YesStyle or Amazon, or from any store that sells Canmake. For Hong Kong, there's an actual Canmake store in Mong Kok near Exit D, and they have a huge range of products. I love going there, and hopefully you get a chance to before it closes (since shops often change quickly around the area).

For reference: this is how big it is next to Shirokuma!

The tube of mascara is around 8cm!

My hand for further reference.

The description of the mascara is pretty extensive, so there's a lot to get through that I'll just post all for convenience. You can check out the official site description and more pictures here

"A mascara that does your eyeliner for you?!
The only mascara you need for fabulously bold eyes ♥

Waterproof: Contains beautifying ingredients

The secret of the eyeliner effect
● This mascara gives your eyes added impact by coating the roots of your lashes. Giving the lashline a thorough coating of mascara makes the roots cluster together, so they seem to be joined by a dense, unbroken black line that looks just like eyeliner.

Ensures a wide-eyed look without making the eyelid fold narrower!
● Unlike eyeliner, which you apply along the edge of the eyelid, this creates an eyeline effect at the waterline, ensuring your eyes look wider without making the eyelid fold narrower.
● Outlining your eyes with eyeliner tends to make them look narrower if you have single or deep-set double eyelids. But you don't need to worry about that with this product, because it just emphasizes the natural line of the eye ♪

Fiber-free lengthening mascara
● We've left out the fibers, to ensure that the mascara smoothly and thoroughly coats your lashes from the roots. But it still has a lengthening effect, for beautifully enhanced lashes ♥

Ultra-fine brush specially designed to coat the roots, too
● This ultra-fine brush makes it easy to target the roots of your lashes with pinpoint accuracy. But it won't get mascara on your lids or around your eyes, making it simple for everyone to get stunning lashes.
● While the brush is slim and compact, the clustering effect provides the ideal amount of volume. Plus, it offers tremendous maneuverability, making it simple to apply mascara to the tricky lower lashes, as well.

Waterproof, yet removable with warm water
● Waterproof formulation resistant to water, sweat and tears. But to minimize the burden on your eyes, we've formulated it to be simple to remove with warm water ♪

Contains beautifying (moisturizing) ingredients
● Hydrolyzed silk, sodium hyaluronate"

This also only comes in one color, 01 which is a natural black, but a similar formula product called Layered Look Mascara (800JPY) is also on offer and come in 01, Honey Nut Caramelise, and 02, Rose Burgundy, for a casual but stylish twist to usual mascara colors.

Firstly, I love that they have this in English so you can really get all the special details and considerations they had when making this product, effects I feel even before I actually read the official description.
To note: personally for me, I'm not that concerned about wanting a more natural look (as I will wear eyeliner before I wear mascara), and I don't mind fibres too much -although I won't go out of my way to find lengthening type mascaras either, but I appreciate that I get the same effect without leaving little stray bits of fiber around my face after make up removal.

Most of all, I love the wand of this so much. It is lovely and small, and you can brush horizontally and vertically to catch all of the eyelashes, and make sure there's minimal clumping and smearing on the bottom lashes as well.

The wand is very thin but easy to use!
And again, the absolute essential aspect of this mascara for me, a waterproof, water based mascara -
It will never smudge on me, not in winter, not in summer, not when I have a sneaky nap that lasts 5 hours.
How this waterproof water based mascara formula has changed my life, even every hardcore "waterproof" mascara I've ever tried will smudge because of the natural oils on your face breaking it all down.
Your face, however, much less likely to produce oil.
Don't wear this if you're crying though, it will just flake off, but thankfully, no smearing.
Nothing will make this mascara smear, and then I step into the shower and it all magically rinses off under some warm water. This will last for a whole day, I promise.

For some low quality and unedited close ups of my eye, this is a before photo of my curled lashes (with Koji's lash curler) and some DUP brown liner.

Curled, with a simple (and hastily applied) liner.

Here's an after!
One coat on top and bottom lashes.
While you can see a smidge of drooping, this is pretty normal if I don't make an effort to lift them while drying. They do a nice job of giving a bit more definition and color (darkness) to help my lashes stand out a bit more, and add a bit of length. For me, it's just good to get a bit of a framing for the lashes, but if I wanted some more 'oomph', typically I would just reach for my false lashes instead.

In conclusion, I really like this, and the small and convenient tube means it's very travel friendly, good for putting into small purses if you like to go out and touch up your mascara, and also if you're lazy, don't clean your face too well, or maybe you're just trying to find a mascara that won't smudge on you, this is what I would recommend.

All of those factors are something I look for in a product, and thankfully even without doing prior research, this mascara was exactly what I was looking for - especially for the price!

I can't recommend this mascara enough, and highly encourage you to check it out if you're interested in any of the reasons I've just listed out, or even if you've just never tried a mascara formula like this before.
