UNKNOWN PLEASURES BY KEROSENE REVIEW

I've always been a huge fan of gourmand perfumes, and honestly trying to find the perfect one all over the world has not been easy. While indies are absolutely perfect for filling that niche, I stumbled upon niche brands first. My review today is of one of the first I tried, Unknown Pleasures by Kerosene.

Here is a description of the perfume from Kerosene:

Unknown Pleasures brings to mind a stroll down a cold street in Manchester, England listening to Joy Division, sipping on a warm cup of London Fog. The fragrance opens up with the smooth sweetness of honey and Earl Grey tea, with a zing of lemon. It dries down to a cozy vanilla, soft tonka bean and waffle cone base, sure to make any gourmand lover smile.

NOTES: Earl Grey tea, lemon, bergamot, honeycomb, tonka bean, caramel, vanilla and waffle cone

I bought this from a company called IndieScents, which is a Canadian based brand. They offer 1.5ml samples of different niche perfume houses, and I made a few orders from Kerosene and Kelly & Jones.
I loved this scent so much that I've actually ordered a second sample of this, but the only size up they offer from this is actually the full size 100ml bottle, which retails for USD$140.

As Kerosene is more of a niche brand, their perfumes are far more 'perfume' and less foodie than suggested - so take the gourmand tag as more of a suggestion.

The opening notes of Unknown Pleasures registers a little bit like a mixture between key lime pie and lemon meringue (one of my favorite desserts!). The lemon never leans too much like toilet cleaner (unlike Ivory Eyelet or Falling into the Sea), and remains a super bright and edible lemon, lemon rind citrus note. The tonka bean and vanilla here is a strong, creamy, sort of coconut-y smell, it's creamy and is a nice sweet mellow vanilla, just under the sweet honey and the lemon. Waffle cone comes up as a sort of crispy sugary vanilla and egg ish note, but it's not too prevalent, and the honeycomb and caramel mixes in as a vague cloud of gourmand sweetness. The bergamot peeks through as a bright citrus, but the Earl Grey is almost non-existent. Although it's not noted as a note, this scent has a strong musky and almost woody quality to the scent - it reminds me a touch of iso-e. This is very much a niche perfume's take on a lemon meringue pie with waffle cone and caramel syrup.

In terms of wear time, it lasts 7-8 hours, and has wonderful throw and projection - one spray is very concentrated and fills a room.

I initially was debating whether or not to full size this to their 100mL bottle, but after some consideration, I've been happy enough with my two sample vials.
