Matcha Melty Lip by Mentholatum: Review
As someone who absolutely loves food scented items, I spotted this matcha Melty Cream Lip and honestly could not keep my hands off this one. It looks like it could be delicious, and without any tester there I decided to take the dive (it retails for about JPY450 without tax, which rounds up to about AUD$4. Which is pretty much as good as it gets.)
Much like most special Japanese cosmetics, this is again, a Limited Edition item.

Here's an official description of the product:
Another look. The back of this plastic package is partially clear with a picture of the lip balm inside.
My impressions:
Scent: This is pretty much perfect, like sweetened thinned with water iced matcha drink. It literally smells, and sort of vaguely tastes like a matcha latte in lip balm formula. It has a lovely grassy note to the matcha, but dried in the way that matcha powder does, with a touch of creamy milk, and a good dose of sugar. It's an absolutely perfect rendition of 'matcha', something I've never found before (a close second is the Maccha Milk Flavor soap from Pelican Soap)
Formula: The actual formula itself is also pretty smooth and giving, it isn't hard or waxy at all (so, nothing like the EOS lip balms) just a nice malleable stick. It is, as the name suggests, Melty and pretty creamy, and very soft. On all counts of what they advertise this lip balm as being, I'd say it's a pretty accurate and effective balm for my dry, chapped lips during the cold, dry winters.
It also has a 25 SPF for the lip balm which is pretty good, especially considering that not a lot of lip balms offer 25 SPF, although it's hard for me to gauge how effective this really is.
A picture of the lip balm's packaging. It's pretty much the standard Mentholatum brand packaging except with green, and some different details on the tube.
The only downside honestly, is that if you do go overboard with moisturizing, that it has a sexy green cast on the lips when you apply too much. Unlike those color changing lipsticks, this isn't the green turns pink kind of green, this is actually straight up just, I had too much matcha latte and now my mouth and tongue are stained green kinda green.
Luckily, this will come off when you wipe it, but that matcha latte scent will still linger - which is a bonus.
Depending on your own preference, this can either be a great foodie Matcha scent that actually is not just a gimmicky makeup product. Alternatively, you may absolutely hate this because you don't want to smell a dessert on your lips whenever you go to sleep.
Close up of the twisted up lip balm- beautifully unused.
I personally love this, I don't have a lot of use for lip balms at all to be honest because my lips react to certain products (haven't figured out what it is yet because those tests take much time to run), but this is honestly such a good smell I can't give it up.
I would rate this a solid 8/10 for not actually just being a cheap gimmicky and most of the time, unusable beauty product.
I bought mine from just any pharmacy/drugstore around Fukuoka, but if you aren't located around Japan you can probably get it from this site: https://us.cosme.net/brands/show/246. This site https://dokodemo.world/en/es/products/213988/ sells other Mentholatum products in other scents, such as their Milky-Vanilla scent. Other sites selling the Matcha scent seem to be reseller sites unfortunately, and put the price up a considerable amount.
This was originally a limited edition item, but actually has come back due to popular demand and is now for sale at most pharmacies and drugstores again - now with a popular Milk Tea flavor as well!
I highly recommend buying this if you come across it!
