Diptyque: Eau Rose Review
Eau Rose: Roses damascena & centifolia, chamomille, litchi.
On opening, this is a lovely jammy fresh burst of crushed red roses, it's equal parts both rich and floral, a swirl of rose water, slowly drying down into a light fruity tea profile. It has a slightly bitter, tannic tea leaf quality here, paired with a slight green quality. Huffing it closely also brings more of the fruity, lychee sweetness here, but it's very faint and almost fleeting at times. I think the way Diptyque does rose here is exquisite, and the little touches of tea and fruit here just lend a beautiful nuance to the rose - it feels almost like a solinote, but it's interesting enough to keep you sniffing. I think this is a little too linear for the price tag personally, but the way it really lets the gorgeous rose accord shine here is unparalleled, so I picked up a small travel size for myself in the EDT version.
The EDP version is a lot stronger on the floral sweetness of the rosewater, whereas the EDT lets more of the green/lychee nuances come through a little more. Based on the notes, I think this actually reminds me a lot of Prevaricating (NCD) one of my favorites from their April line up, except this is far more of a sweeter, gourmand take, and is much more of a sugar bomb, whereas this is a lot more tempered, and really lets the rose take the driver's seat.
