Aqua Savon: Milky Body Spray Review
A while ago, Aqua Savon, a popular Japanese perfume/body care brand, did a collaboration with Milky, or better known as Fujiya Peko-chan Milky Candy, which is a milk flavored candy from Japan (the flavor is the key part, but the candy now actually comes in a few forms, such as soft chewy types, and also hard candy types). Having grown up with seeing Milky candy (and occasionally indulging in a few too many), this is a nostalgic taste/smell to me the same way White Rabbit candy is (they're actually quite similar in taste though I usually associate Milky with hard candy, while White Rabbit has a layer of rice paper around it and the chew feels like it'll pull your teeth out sometimes). Anyway, Aqua Savon created a line of body care products for Milky, including hand cream, body cream, bath powders (more akin to milk baths), a EDP and also a body spray. While I own both the EDP and the body spray, I personally think there isn't a huge difference in quality regarding intensity and projection of the scent, but the body spray is a far better deal.
To my knowledge, this collaboration has since been discontinued, although the original run was so successful that they did actually bring it back at some point, but is not a general, year round kinda thing. From my experience, if you look hard enough you'll occasionally still find this being sold every so often at places because of leftover stock and what not. However, since this was being sold, it seems that there has been an increase in interest in making milk candy scented items, so despite this one being a little harder to find, I have found some close dupes!
Review:
For those who do know, this is basically a flat out dupe of Milky candy. It's exactly identical, and it's mouthwateringly delicious. However, for those who haven't tried Milky candy before, it has a very faint, almost condensed milk like sweetness. It's not super lactonic, but it has a very sticky syrupy sugared milk scent, but it does have a lingering creaminess especially at the heart of the scent. While I do adore this scent, I have to admit, the scent is quite faint if you're expecting traditional levels of perfumery performance. For Japanese body mists, I'd say it's also on the fainter end compared to the likes of Fernanda, but it does last for about 1-2 hours. I also have noticed that with the body mists being more solinote type blends, it's easy to become noseblind to the scent, but I have sprayed on clothes before and noticed the scent still hanging around 3-4 hours later. For 100ml, and an easy to travel with plastic spray bottle, I really do enjoy this scent and really wished it came back as a permanent fixture in Aqua Savon's lineup.
For those who are curious about dupes, I would recommend Black Paw's Milk, which I think is the closest. I have tried the Gudu White Rabbit candy perfume, although I find that one is far more milk/dairy/yogurt-y, and Milk Candy from Scent Library is comparably a lot more zingy and has a strong bergamot/lemon blossom accord in addition to the faint sweet milk scent.
