Stereoplasm: Dimension of Imagination Collection Review

This fall, Stereoplasm really brought out some spooky vibes with their mini collection, the Dimension of Imagination, which is honestly an amazing compliment to their other collection, DECLASSIFIED, which is based off an Area 51, space, aliens and other alternate truths and realities. The Dimension of Imagination is "as vast as space" and as "timeless as infinity", dwelling in the cracks between perfume, experience, scent and memory, rooting itself in your nose and between your frontal lobes.

The aesthetic of the collection gives me a real Legion aesthetic to this collection - and if you have not watched Legion, the first season is incredible and definitely worth checking out. It really feeds into the experience of unreliable narrators, reality warping and a transfixing experience of sense immersion (and a whole host of self indulgent clips)! And of course, I was so excited to see something for autumn that wasn't just cottagecore pumpkin spice (which, is amazing, but I think I have enough pumpkin gourmands to last me multiple parallel lifetimes!).

This collection also was created with their new higher concentration - I previously have had minor issues with their longevity and projection (only for a few scents), but these have significantly been more concentrated and it's obvious with their improved levels of projection. I also didn't have any issues with these new higher concentration formulas - I have sensitive skin but have previously never experienced any issues with ingredients like cinnamon.

These are sold in the usual 4.5mL and 7.5mL rollerballs. I didn't experience any leaking with the bottles, or the rollerballs. I have also tried to measure these at one point, and the fill in the 4.5 bottles sometimes end up being 4.6 as well. For the labels, these are still oil/smear proof, however if you're not careful with the labels they do tend to chip/flake off!

As always, a huge thank you to Meaghan for sending me this collection to review!

Eye of the Beholder: Soft white musk, ace bandages, rosewood, tears and bindweed

Opening up with a demure touch of sweet damp rose, rose scented makeup powder in a fancy bathroom, clipped rose stems. It's got all that candied Turkish rose petals, paired with the heady chlorophyll of grass and thorny rose stems. After it dries down, the top notes of the sweet rose give way to a blast of cold bindweed, like weeds that creep up in the garden, and a touch of the bitterness of tomato leaf. There's an edge of real dampness that lingers around this scent too, paired with the translucent quality of soft white musk which is a soft, almost powdery compliment to the rosewood. I don't get much of the tell tale smell of ace bandages or the glue on the tape for this.

With this scent, the bindweed note to me is very similar to Gone Gnome from the St. Patrick's collection, but I'd definitely loved if I got a stronger note from warm candied rose, or even a woodier base from the rosewood. With the new concentration, I had a 5-6 hour wear with this, a medium projection.

Perfect for: This scene; Lost in an approximation of Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter Tea Party, the heady steam and white smoke of burning herbs, an unpolished rosewood table piled high with tea and cakes, and the weedy tangle of oversized foliage.

Perchance to Dream: Blue amber, lute strings, dark patchouli, black cardamom seeds, mace and hourglass sand

This scent opens with a hypnotic warmth, a burst of liquorice, star anise, smokey cardamom and a touch of pepper. The blue amber is a lighter, resinous touch, combined with this cold wooden base. After dry down, there's a sweetness to the star anise, like ground spices, saffron, mace and nutmeg. There's also a dry, warm scent of cinnamon sticks that just dances on top. Combined with the musky darkness of the patchouli and the darker cardamom, this is a rich, dry warm scent that paints all the colors of autumn.

If this was a color, it would be a gorgeous cinnamon, with all the tones of red and brown just running through the scent. I definitely didn't expect this to be such so warm and spiced, like a Moroccan spice market with all the gorgeous reds, yellows, mustards and browns, and a peek of something darker underneath.

With the new concentration, I had a 6-7 hour wear with this and a large projection and linear wear.

Perfect for: This scene; If this is a dream, it smells like time travelling to a decadent Moroccan abode, curtains and drapes of dark red cloth, gilded chairs and dim lamps, the scent of heady patchouli and a breakfast of delicious Moroccan food and the smell of warm spices.

Mirror Image: True moss, twinflower, freesia, tweed, crepe myrtle and fear

Opening up with a very sweet and demure profile - it has this lovely floral opening of sweet freesia, a touch of light honeysuckle, candied strawberries and a touch of cotton candy, and it's blended in a way that's very reminiscent of mainstream 'feminine' scents (Somewhere in the ballpark of Mariah Carey's M and Anna Sui's Secret Wish).

After dry down, this scent is a shifter, and the notes start to develop into this warm, spicy profile, and reminds me a little bit of the ''lingering cologne' note in Wilde (Stereoplasm). It throws me notes of bitter cedar, coriander, sandalwood, bergamot, lemon myrtle, but it develops into a traditional mainstream 'homme' scent. It's a little woody, but it still has a tart freshness from the floral that balances it out.

While I can't claim to smell any fear, I have to say, if my fear is of men who spray far too much cologne and can be smelt in a lift even after they've left, then this is definitely 100% what fear smells like. However, I do love that this scent corresponds with the name, it feels like it has this duality to it from the stereotypically bitter masculine notes, contrasted against the sweetness of florals. This was my personal favorite from the collection.

With the new concentration, I had 6-7 hour wear with this scent, and on the higher end of medium projection with this. It does shift slightly throughout the wear, but the most dramatic shift is during dry down.

Perfect for: This scene; Long concrete halls, the smooth tones of flamenco music, stuttering lights cast in monochrome, gender neutral clothing, double takes in the mirror and Lenny Busker in stockings.

You can purchase these stereoplasm.com, and here in either 4.5mL ($16.5 CAD) or 7.5mL ($26.5 CAD) rollerballs.
