Inspired scents: Doukyuusei
I recently came across a manga called Doukyuusei by Nakamura Asumiko, and just found so many things about it that I loved - and there's nothing more I love than brainstorming some inspired scents. Doukyuusei was also made into a movie, and it has all the gorgeous hallmarks of the original art, delicate watercolor backdrops and soft music. I really loved watching and reading it, so I really enjoyed writing these up.
NATSU - the fizzy burst of spilled soda pop on empty steps of concrete and stone, the trickle of a water fountain and the humidity of a hot summer's night.
Entry Number 7 - Blossoming trees of green, buds of new young leaves and the promise of spring in the warming air.
Second Summer - a fizzy burst of spilled soda pop, now in a new flavor: lemon.
AKI - the drizzle of autumn rain against the still green leaves, seeping into soft cardigans, thatched straw roofs of a harvest hut and a drop of blood.
Complex/Simplex - too many paper cups of bitter beer, sweet intoxicating ethanol, the metallic strings of an electric guitar, dry grass, a wooden sandbox and the musk of warm skin.
His First - First bloom of sakura petals, wooden benches and a bottle of unsweetened green tea.
Sabotage - The ebb and flow of the cold seawater against wet sand, soaked shoes and the distant dream of sweet melon bread and sugary kisses.
Kin/Gin - The metallic tinge of matching gold and silver rings, sitting on plush velvet boxes.
Sajou - An immaculately pressed school uniform, clean laundry, a yellow ribbon tied around stacks of books and the crinkle of paper pages.
Kusakabe - Shimmering gold, yuzu peel, sandalwood incense, the faint scent of cigarette smoke and motorcycles.
