Sundae: Gingerbread Foaming Body Wash Review
Best known for their whipped cream canisters, Sundae released a special version of these festive scents. I picked these up from Priceline on sale, but they usually retail for $20 AUD for 265mL, and are currently available again on their website. I do love the design of these and they look just like whipped cream, although any foaming situation is never quite worth the price tag, but I'll make an exception for scented items. This brand is a local Australian brand, and it also is alcohol, sulfate, paraben free, vegan and cruelty free.
Scent:
I don't mind this scent, although I'm uninspired by it. It's comparatively very faint, but it has a light fruity gingerbread quality - more of a lightly spiced situation, with the light zest of gingerbread. It's not particularly bready, but it has an almost zingy citrus quality to the gingerbread. I wish this was just a little stronger, or perhaps even a little bit more of caramel or icing The description for this one is also pretty vague. I do like it, although I just wish the scent was a little more intense so I could actually smell it.Formula:
The foaming body wash is formulated with Kakadu plum and finger limes, and is supposed to be gentle and moisturising. While I do enjoy the dispensing situation of the canister, the actual soap formula isn't particularly amazing, but isn't very stripping either. I tried washing without water (just the soap) and it doesn't lather at all, but it just sinks into the skin (which I haven't experienced before?). It works the best with a little bit of water, but I definitely think that I've tried better whipped soaps (eg. Kyse), although foaming washes may be formulated differently? I personally don't have any strong feelings towards this soap, but for the price tag, I'd definitely hope for better performance in both formula and scent.
Overall:
For the price tag, both the scent and formula were whelming - I did enjoy the scent but it's far too faint for me to actually know if I truly enjoy it or not. For the formula, it works as it should (as soap). I've seen reviews saying they really do not enjoy how drying/stripping the formula is, but I can't say I had the same experience, although I can't really recommend it at all (I picked up a gingerbread handwash at TKMaxx for less than half the price which works just as well), but I'm sure half of the price of this is for the novelty of the scent and the packaging. I'd check it out if this was on sale, but unless you're in love with the scent/formula, I'd say there are better options out there. For any locals, OXX at Kmart actually do a dupe of this with slightly different packaging and scents, although they are far more strongly scented although they're not as unique or as classy as the OG Sundae scented line up. That said, this is a really cute festive present I'm sure anyone would enjoy - it's inoffensive and works well enough.
