Fenty Beauty: LIl Butta Dropz Body Cream Review

I haven't had the pleasure of trying Fenty Beauty, but recently dabbled a little into the brand and was instantly intrigued by the holiday sets - specifically the body cream trio which came in the original scent (Fenty Fresh). Salted Caramel and Toasted Marshmallow (+ extra Warm Cinnamon). For the trio, this retails for $89 AUD (29.6 each 75ml jar). The jar is nice enough, just a standard plastic screw top jar.

Description

  • Delicious blend of seven conditioning essential oils melts onto skin
  • Renews + replenishes intense moisture instantly and over time
  • Gives skin a healthy-looking sheen that's never sticky
  • Levels up skin's vibrancy with antioxidant-packed Barbados Cherry
  • Leaves behind a glossy finish with a soft, gold shimmer
  • Includes a range of scents: Fenty Fresh, Salted Caramel + Toasted Marshmallow

Formula

I'm ambivalent about these but I lean towards disliking these - it's quite viscous and thick from the jar which is nice, and go over the skin quite nicely, but there's a sticky tacky dry down on these body creams which I really dislike. I tend to really dislike stickiness, and these ones are a little greasy and just don't sink into the skin at all. I'd say it definitely was softening and hydrating, but the 'non sticky' claims here are not true. The shimmer on these are also interesting, it's a very subtle shimmer that you don't really notice in the jar. I think it looked nice, but I would rarely wear apply this in places that you'd need shimmer for - so that's not a big selling point for me.

Scent

To be honest, most of the scents read as barely perceptible on me, and then mildly synthetic - they're strongest in scent upon application, but dry down and vanish quite quickly (within half an hour). Compared to titans like BBW, these are no where near close, and I had these pressed up against my face trying and huffing to get anything out of these.

Salted Caramel
Oh I don't love this one - This is the faintest of all the scents and all I could really smell was plastic on these. It has a very very faint caramel scent (like vague sweetness?) but otherwise this is completely null. Interestingly enough, this is also the scent in the Plush Puddin lip mask, but that was also completely absent. Not sure what they formulated this one with, but it's just completely gone once you apply this on the skin. For that price? Go somewhere else. BBW, Fernanda, SDJ, anything, just not here.

Marshmallow
This is ... Fine. It's mildly sweet but still choked up in plastic, and I really can't move past it. It has a vague vanilla cream type of scent, rather than the toasty/puffy/powdery marshmallow type situation, but again, at this price point, I'm really expecting a lot more than what they're offering. This is inoffensive, but by inoffensive, I mean, imperceptible. There are better marshmallow scents out there, you don't need this one.

Warm Cinnamon
The best of the bunch (which is not a high bar to clear). This one is a lovely soft spiced situation, very much like cinnamon sugar, and smells a lot like the egg nog lip mask scent from Laneige (which I picked up and love). I only wish this one was a little stronger, but there's still that lingering soft plastic undertone on this one, but it's much softer compared to the others. I'd probably use this one if I was gifted it, but I'd never purchase it again.

Overall

For the price point and performance, this is a no go for me. Even at a cheaper price point, I wouldn't repurchase because of the stickiness and the completely absent scents, but on top of that, it feels like it's piggybacking mostly off it's celebrity brand status rather than actually being good. I can't recommend this (tho YMMV) but this isn't for me.
