Stereoplasm: Paperback Cafe Review

Paperback Cafe was brainstormed as a special community custom via voting polls on Stereoplasm's Instagram a while ago - and I was so excited to try this! Thank you again to Meaghan for sending me the press samples.

Paperback Cafe - Old books, Earl Grey latte, Japanese plum, ginger and creme brûlée.

The wonderful Kacy (the previous creative director of Stereoplasm) wrote this gorgeous description of the Paperback Cafe: Sitting in a cozy cafe with a well-worn book, you nurse a steaming Earl Grey latte. Beside you is a ripe Japanese plum and some ginger candies to help with your studies. The smell of creme brulee permeates your space–bourbon vanilla custard–as you hear the snap of a perfectly crunchy caramelized shell.

I really love the depth in this scent - it has a lovely balance between the fresh fruitiness of the plum and ginger and the creamy richness in the creme brulee and latte. The opening in this scent is a bright, crisp plum entangled with bergamot infused iced lemonade, with a real sharp tartness from the citrus. After dry down, the scent brings forth this delicate blend of the sweet laconic milkiness, the sugary custard and the citrus. The overall scent has a cheerful zingy citrus sugar over the creamy custard base. I'm a little let down I didn't get much of an 'old books' note from this scent, but I tend to amp sweetness on my skins, YMMV!

I really loved this community custom, and I loved the inspiration, so I did a little doodle of whimsical illustrated menu you get at a lot of small Japanese cafes, with cute little daily specials and translucent pastels.
