Nui Cobalt: Planets Part 1 Review

Everyone's always a little excited for an astrology collection, and Nui Cobalt never disappoints! They released a Planets 1 and 2 collection, the first for the planets (and the sun and moon), and the second for astrological signs. I picked out Venus and Uranus, I really liked the sound of the feminine rose blend, but also I was really excited to try a more atmospheric blend for Uranus!

Venus - The ivory petals of opulent heirloom roses, silken shea, honeyed almond, Bourbon vanilla, Queen Elizabeth root, and a scant trace of Bulgarian lavender.

This is a gorgeous blast of heirloom roses, it's powdery and very full bodied. Although I'd describe this rose combo as an old school type of scent, the one you'd find in soap - but it's so ridiculously classy, it's a classic type of scent for a reason. On my skin, this feels like a roccoco lolita scent, with bundles of pink roses, rosewater buttercream piped into raspberry red macarons, with a light drizzle of lavender syrup. Think frills, and rose scented pressed powder. This reminded me a lot of Gion (Fantome), although this has a slightly darker nuance thanks to the shea and the bourbon, but it's sort of the more Versailles to Fantome's Gion. On RP's skin, this did not suit him at all - it was a mash of florals, musky rose and soiled sheets. I definitely chalked that one up to skin chemistry, I tend to amp sweeter notes so it was no surprise this was fairly nicer on me.

Uranus - Ozone, electrified metal, cracked ice, absinthe, almond, and unripe fig.

I was initially wary about this scent as I don't have the best hit rates with atmospherics, but this is a really wearable scent, especially for an atmospheric! This scent is definitely more unisex/masc leaning, and on my skin this smells a lot like a scent I'd find in the cologne section of a department store. The scent is very well blended, to the point where it's hard to pick out the exact notes in this blend because the overall profile has a dark, musky base and isn't overly sweet at all. On RP, this is actually beautiful - it smells like it has a dab of petrichor with a slightly fruity sweetness and a metallic tinge. He thought this smelt a little like a herbal tea on him, and I do think it has more of a fragrant fitting profile on his skin, and would probably be wasted on me anyway. Skin chemistry definitely took me for a ride with these two scents!
