Solstice Scents: Cellar, Kitchen, Library Review

Cellar

Damp Earth, Stone, Wooden Casks, Cool Fall Air, Apple, Pear, Broom Corn. Extrait/WS/BG. Oil based extrait. EARTHY/FRUITY

Wet: A candy apple note, it leans a little synthetic but it's paired with a lovely atmospheric note.

Dried down:  Imagine a damp cellar. Something about this scent initially transports me to Poe's The Cask of Amontillado, the dampness of stone cold catacombs, decaying candied apples and pears, and the softness of graveyard soils. The wooden cask for me smells more like a musky cupboard with a few too many patches of mould, and maybe even a chilly breeze that tickles your neck and sends a shiver down your back.

After a few hours of wear, my skin pulls out the apple and pear notes, and it becomes more of a sweeter, fruity atmospheric, with a slight hint of the damp, wooden cellar as the background for the fruit bowl.

Perfect for: Atmospheric/Fruit fans - it's a perfect blend of both but YMMV on what you tend to amp!

Kitchen

Pumpkin, Sugar Cookies, Peach Preserves, Spice Breads, Danishes, Caramel, Vanilla & Sweet Wood Smoke. GOURMAND/SPICY

Wet: Candied pumpkin, peach syrup drenched in pumpkin, pumpkin sugar cookies, caramel pumpkin danishes. Sweets and pumpkins.

Dried down: While not as smoky as Foxcroft Fairgrounds, this scent is like the sweet spouse of Corvin's Spiced Apple - Don't let the "spicy" deter you either, it's the treacle, syrupy blend of spice, a beautiful nutmeg and cinnamon blend sprinkled on sweet peach and baked apple. The robust, fleshy baked pumpkin notes are served with a mixed fruit danish, with vanilla sugar and caramelised spices. At the base of this scent, the baked danish pastry reminds me a little bit of Malarkey and Flummery (Nui Cobalt Designs) with its mellow vanilla sugar and heavy nutty notes and wheat aroma.
If you were a fan of Pumpkin Waffle (Cocoa Pink), you'll be sure to enjoy this pumpkin and spiced fruit, and it's one of the very few spice/pumpkin blends that I've found myself really loving.

Perfect for: Fans of fall scents, this is the perfect pumpkin spice with a dash of fruity gourmand sweetness just to mix it up a little.

Library
Leather Bound Books, A Carved Rosewood Mantle, Dying Fireplace Embers, Wood Wainscoting, Cedar Shelving and Aged Paper. LEATHER/WOODY.

Wet: Those familiar with the leather bound books note from Byzantine (Sucreabeille) and Aziraphale (Hexennacht) will recognize this scent. It's a sharp, almost aromatic vintage leather, and printed paper, paired with a heavier cedar base, with a woody profile. There's a hint of paper, and a touch of smokiness.

Dried down: Unlike Byzantine and Aziraphale, the heart of this blend is centered around the wood and tannic qualities of delicately carved wood and dry, crackling fire wood. As a result, this blend has a lovely woody, warm and lightly spiced quality to it. The carved rosewood mantles spring to life with each huff, curling smoke from the fireplace embers and the glowing red sparks of dying fires. It's an enveloping warmth of pressed paper, wood panels, a cozy inviting couch and a warm fireplace. The longer you wear it for, much like the fireplace, the drier it gets, with the slight sharpness of the leather to give you a bit of a paper cut.

Perfect for: The bookworm stuck in the library. This is all leather and wood, but imaginatively evocative, transporting you away to all the far away lands that you find between the pages of a well read book.
