Nui Cobalt: Nui's Favorite Things (Witchy Shoppe, Breakfast, Parisian Pink) Review
This year, Forest launched the 'Nui's Favorite Things' collection, which included, as the name suggests, all of Forest's favorite things. As always, you can pick up the collection on their website! They have lightning fast TAT, and also international shipping.
Witchy Shoppe - You can feel it as soon as you walk in the door. You can tell when it's the real deal, because it feels like you’ve come home. Oakmoss, copal smoke, Nag Champa, frankincense, Tibetan cedarwood, tonka bean, black walnut, clove bud, Egyptian musk, an unobtrusive trace of sage, and a pinch of graveyard dirt.
Definitely very witchy to me. It's a heavy blend that channels every dimly lit, velvet draped magic shop you've ever been to - for me, it's a shop that's tucked away in the Rocks, a painted wooden sign with Jupiter painted on it, shelves stacked with tarot cards, magic books propped up on velvet covered tables, rickety wooden floors and stairs, candles, crystal and incense. The notes are all blended, shifting like smoke into one another, creating a super atmospheric scent - the graveyard dirt, Nag Champa and Egyptian musk are what pop out at me most, but the overall result is a heavy, heady and intoxicating scent of everything it claims to be. Absolute 10/10 witchy vibes.
Breakfast - Buttered blueberry pancakes with Vermont maple syrup, warm cinnamon rolls, fresh squeezed orange juice, steamy black tea, and toasted almond croissants.
Although the listed notes are pretty similar to Enjoy Your Waffles (Stereoplasm), this is very different! On opening, the main notes that jump out are the sourness of orange juice, splashed with maple syrup and butter. Although coffee isn't listed here, the black tea actually reads a lot more like coffee on my skin, and the overall scent is a little more bitter, more spiced and nutty than just the pancakes and maple syrup. Although I'm not a huge fan of the opening, it settles and dries down on my skin in a nice way (YMMV! My skin tends to pull out the sweetness in scents). The result is undeniably warm and cozy - buttery pancakes, cinnamon sugar and a hint of tannic something. It's almost atmospheric, the way it just feels like biting into food without being overly foodie, and it definitely wears close to the skin - like a gourmand take on a 'my skin but better' scent.
Parisian Pink - My other favorite color. Peony petals, a suede settee, osmanthus, silk tree, spun sugar, Margaret Merril roses, pink grapefruit, and antique sandalwood.
This is like, smack in your face, girly pink perfume. You know every time you've walked past the elaborate, pink chiffon and pink glass displays of a mainstream perfume aisle and been hit by a cloud of fruity floral pink. This is it. This is a strong, sugary, floral bouquet that has the telltale, warm musky base of sandalwood, topped with indiscriminate sweetness of 'spun sugar'. I think this is a cute scent, it's definitely an office friendly scent that would hook in mainstream lovers. I'm personally indifferent to this - it's lovely but it's not something particularly unique in comparison to what I could find in stores.
